Argentière – France

Argentière ski resort is another classic ski spot that is part of the Ski Pass Mont Blanc area in the Chamonix Valley dubbed as the Free riding Capital of Europe. Argentière has 30 kilometres of pisted downhill runs but it also has access to 354 individual pistes. The pistes rise up to 2,500 metres and it has a total of ten lifts that can accommodate 51,000 people per hourly ascent. The terrains of the resort can cater to different skiing levels. There are wide easy pistes for beginners and children, and sloping and narrow trails for advanced skiers, but the resort is much famous for its long and wide areas for free riders. Numerous off-piste roads are also available. The powder conditions pose no problems as snow is very abundant during the whole skiing season. The resort opens at December and continues to operate until April.

If you choose to go by rail, the village of Argentière is on the metre-gauge St Gervais-Vallorcine-Martigny line. From Paris, it will take a good 5 hours to reach St Gervais, which is the nearest main train station to Argentière . When you are travelling by road, make sure you have the proper snow tyres and chains to prepare for the bad weather and the uphill route to Argentière . The Charmonix valley has a large network of bus routes and they provide service going and coming from Charmonix even during night-time. Car hire would be the best option if you are travelling as a group. It may be expensive, but not always as there are other car hires that offer travel discounts or packages. Taxis can accommodate up to four people and are also available from the airports mentioned.
